About

Matt Rudd is a Cape Town-based musician and guitarist whose sound lives somewhere between the warmth of the campfire and the crackle of an overdriven amp. Equally at home delivering a fingerpicked acoustic cover and plugging into a full band setup, he brings a storyteller's instinct to every riff and a writer's ear to every lyric. When he's not on stage, he's in the studio — or hunting for the next great collaboration.

In the artist's words

One of your earliest musical memories?

The first time I stood on stage with a guitar in my hands will forever be locked in my memory banks. I'm fairly certain I didn't play very well, but the joy of playing music for people was an electric feeling.

Top 3 all-time favourite albums?

AC/DC — Highway to Hell. Daft Punk — Random Access Memories. Eric Clapton — One More Car, One More Rider (Live On Tour 2001). When I heard Eric Clapton play, I knew that's what I needed to do with my life.

Most memorable career moment so far?

The first Xhosaverse show at Selective Live was super memorable. It was wonderful to see the reaction to live Xhosa-driven rap music experienced by a packed room of music lovers.

What's left on your bucket list?

One item on my musical bucket list is to collaborate with Sun-El Musician, Eric Clapton and John Mayer.
